I absolutely love owning and operating an online business.
I’ll never forget the first time I had created my own online “mini courses.” (This was at end of 2010)
I called them “digital products.”
I had originally delivered the content as online webinars (I enjoy performing in front of a live audience).
Everything I taught during those webinars was recorded locally, in HD resolution and with super high audio quality.
I invested a bit of time into editing the recordings down a bit and then made them available as one-off digital products that people could purchase for $100 each.
I decided to have a little fun with it.
I found a way to make it so that every time someone made a purchase, it would cause an app on my phone to make a cash register “cha ching” sound.
After everything was set up, I sent an email to everyone on my list at the time and then… my family and I were off to the Smokey Mountains for an extended vacation over the Thanksgiving Holiday.
On the ride to Tennessee, my kids asked if we could visit some of their favorite spots in Pigeon Forge.
I told them that if we made 10 sales by the time went got to the Smokey’s we could absolutely do all the things they requested.
You should have seen the celebration that happened, in the back seat, every time my phone went “cha ching.”
It was a five hour drive and we had already made more than 10 sales before we were half way there.
That holiday weekend, I generated more than $30,000 in sales. WHILE ON VACATION WITH MY FAMILY!
In the years following, I generated nearly $280,000 in income from those first “mini courses.”
Better than that, all of those courses were the original foundation for the content that became a “signature course” called Podcasting A to Z, which was an online course that generated nearly ONE MILLION DOLLARS in sales from March 2011 through September 2017.
Note: I think it is important for me to point out that, before I created my first online course, I had already been in business, full-time, for two years and had even started building a large and loyal online following for two years before that.
I don’t want to make anyone think that I just started my business, created an online course and saw instant financial success.
That IS NOT how it happened.
I still have several products and services, that I love to offer in my business, that require my physical presence.
As I said earlier, I enjoy performing in front of live audiences.
However, there is something special about having products that people can purchase and instantly benefit from while you are sleeping or on vacation with the family.
